Westward School

French

At Westward we aim;

  • To provide our pupils with a successful introduction to the learning of French.
  • To encourage them to enjoy learning the language and to feel confident about trying to speak French whenever they visit France or a French-speaking country or meet French people.

Pupils begin timetabled French lessons in the Upper School where the emphasis is very much on promoting confidence and spontaneous communication in purposeful situations. The lessons will provide opportunities for listening, speaking, reading, writing and comprehension. The children will become familiar with the sounds and written forms of French.
